Maria D. Navar, F.N.P., C.D.E.
Maria D. Navar, F.N.P., C.D.E., has been a nurse for over 15 years.  After obtaining her Bachelor and Masters degrees in nursing she underwent additional training and became a licensed Nurse Practitioner.  Her career started in 1996 as a Charge Nurse in the Telemetry Unit at Community Hospital of Huntington Park, CA, followed by a couple of years of experience in Urology and Ophthalmology clinics.  She eventually found her calling in endocrinology and has been a Diabetic Nurse Educator and Diabetic Nurse Practitioner since 2000.  Furthermore, in 2006, she became a Certified Diabetes Educator.  Both she and Dr. Tran trained and did research under the same mentor and past-president of the American Diabetes Association, Dr. Mayer B. Davidson.  In addition to managing diabetes she has experience in managing thyroid diseases and other endocrine conditions.  She continues to work at the Diabetes and Endocrine clinics at KDMC county hospital in Los Angeles.  Maria has known Dr. Tran since 2004 and recently decided to join Southern CA Endocrine Medical Group part-time.  She is fluent in Spanish.

Maria is married and has two daughters.  Both are university students attending Seattle University and Johns Hopkins University.  Maria enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family and traveling.

Kimberly Cook, F.N.P.-C
Kimberly Cook, F.N.P.-C, was born and raised in Orange County.  She attended college in northern California and graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Biological Sciences, Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity Emphasis in 2005.  By 2007, she had obtained a second bachelors degree in Nursing (graduating Magna Cum Laude); and by 2009, a Master of Science degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, with academic honors (Dean's List).  While obtaining her Master's degree, Kimberly worked as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Medical Surgical Unit at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.  After graduation, she spent some time working in OB/GYN, adult primary care, and pediatrics.  Prior to joining Southern CA Endocrine Medical Group, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner at the Orange County Rescue Mission.  Similar to the experience of Dr. Tran, she loves the diversity of medicine but always found herself drawn to the intellectual challenges of endocrine diseases in her patients.  In addition, Kim has a special interest in women's health issues.  She is fluent in medical Spanish.

Kimberly is married.  She is an avid skier, enjoys surfing, and jogs regularly.
