Dr. Tran grew up in San Jose, California, and attended college at UCLA.  After obtaining his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, he finished residency in internal medicine at St. Mary-UCLA Medical Center.  He worked as a hospitalist and then in outpatient medicine for almost five years at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in northern California and in Orange County.  Dr. Tran then decided to pursue additional specialty training and completed an Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism fellowship.  Additionally, he has obtained comprehensive credentialing in clinical nutrition and metabolic diseases in the inpatient and outpatient settings and is one of only 40 physicians in California who are board certified as a Physician Nutrition Specialist. 

His research experience in diabetes has culminated in several publications in the journal Diabetes Care.  Academically, he's been appointed the title of Clinical Instructor at the UCLA School of Medicine and continues to teach and give lectures to internal medicine residents. 

Furthermore, he has been honored by the Consumers' Research Council of America with a listing as one of "America's Top Physicians" for 2007, 2009, and 2010 (www.consumersresearchcncl.org).  In 2008, he was honored with a "Patients' Choice" recognition (Out of the nation's 720,000 active physicians, less than 5% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2008 and various components were rated such as bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of office staff, and overall opinions).  Dr. Tran is fluent in Vietnamese and medical Spanish.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children (Andrew, 9; and Brianna, 7) attending their school activities and events, reading (history topics), watching movies, swimming, skiing and snowboarding, hiking, and loves to BBQ.
